We are going to stop publishing just for a little while, but we´ll be back soon! All the projects we are involved in are running at full speed, they do not rest, but this blog will take some time off. The truth is we are still ecstatic for all the positive things that have been going on lately in our company:
The awarding of projects such Solana, Crescent Dunes and AREVA Solar
AKO´s ongoing work in plants such as La Africana and Gemasolar
What a year! All the above mark a significant turning point to all of us, and what do we plan to do now? Work even harder to live up to our self-imposed expectations: to continue offering the best solution to our clients and partners guaranteeing 0 risk in our projects; the best content to our readers and all of our knowledge and expertise to the cause of CSP technology.
We still have lots of stories to tell you about, more projects on the horizon, other markets to explore, lots of great stuff we want to share with you. We are taking just a little break, but we´ll be back stronger! In the meantime, have a great summer.
South African´s sun is getting really hot in the CSP sector, and we are not just playing with words here, that´s just the reality.
Recent news about the country and its willingness to make the best out of its abundant sunlight has generated a great deal of interest among CSP supporters.
At allAfrica.com a recent article highlighted the announcement made by Eskorm, South Africa´s national electricity provider, to invest in what could become one of the largest concentrating solar power plants (CSP) in the world. Financed by the Clean Technology Fund, the International Bank for Reconstruction and development and the African Development, Eskorm aims not only at being a catalyst for local economic growth but also to reduce its emissions of carbon dioxide.
Continuing on this last topic, csp-world.com makes a point on the fact that the Bokpoort Concentrated Solar Power plant will get certified emission reduction credits from UNFCCC (United Nations Framkework Convention on Climate change). Bokpoort is one of the plants that will be built in South Africa, after the country awarded 200 MW of CSP in the first and second round of the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (REIPPP) “Khi Solar One, a 50 MW power tower, Kaxu Solar One, a 100 MW parabolic trough plant, both developed by Abengoa and the Bokpoort CSP plant, developed by ACWA Power International and Solafrica Thermal Enegy”.
And just last June the South African government announced the allocation of 200 MW of CSP in a third round.
These are great news for the country and for the sector. We´ll keep a close eye on how all these plans unfold.
In the wake of theprestigious award our company has just received, our AKO Group Managing Director, José Luís Bescós wants to take the opportunity to address AKO´s employees as well as our partners to ponder the company´s latest events. To Bescós, the award is not only important by itself, but also because of the professionals that chose us to receive it: “we have been recognized on a worldwide level with one of the most prestigious prizes in the CSP sector, competing along renowned companies with a strong background on engineering, and even more important, we have been awarded by professionals within the sector, what a great honor.”
Years of restless efforts investing on reengineering I+D+I and on improving our solution´s engineering process have paid off, and although we are specialists in several applications, are particularly proud of our AKOTRACE® EHT solution, which focus on optimizing the performance of any CSP plant by reducing its production and operational costs.
Bescós also wanted to congratulate the group of people that make up our engineering team: “This award is also an incentive for our international team of engineers that have been working side by side completing every assignment at the highest level. From our headquarters in Barcelona, Spain, all the way to our offices in Phoenix, Arizona, American and Spanish professionals have collaborated jointly to implement our AKOTRACE® system to several projects applying a singular approach to every undertaking: customizing every need, providing a personal and flexible solution to satisfy the needs of every single client”
To sum up those thoughts we put together a video that aired during the award ceremony. This video is about AKO´s philosophy and how we walk along with our clients on their pursuit to provide clean and affordable energy, partnering with them to optimize CSP technology: side by side, following the sun.
